Moving goods from Northern Ireland to Great Britain

There are two journeys for moving goods out of Northern Ireland and into Great Britain:

    1. Direct; Northern Ireland to Great Britain
    2. Indirect; Northern Ireland to Great Britain, via Ireland

The following guides will provide information on both routes, and we recommend starting this guide on moving goods out of Northern Ireland to Great Britain. Alternatively, if you are new to TSS, we recommend starting in Getting Started, with the beginner's guide.

For direct movements to Great Britain, only some goods will require an export declaration outlined in the steps below. Please review this guidance to see if this applies to your goods. If your goods do not require an export declaration, you may not need to complete any declarations pre- or post- movement.

For indirect movements to Great Britain (i.e., via Ireland), all movements will require an export declaration.

See the process flows below for details on the steps of both of the Northern Ireland to Great Britain goods movements, where an export declaration is required. These process flows reflect the changes that were effective from 31 January 2024 in relation to the Border Target Operating Model.
