There are two journeys for moving goods out of Northern Ireland and into Great Britain:

- Direct; Northern Ireland to Great Britain
- Indirect; Northern Ireland to Great Britain, via Ireland

For direct movements to Great Britain, only some goods will require an export declaration outlined in the steps below. Please review this guidance to see if this applies to your goods. If your goods do not require an export declaration, you may not need to complete any declarations pre- or post- movement.
For indirect movements to Great Britain (i.e., via Ireland), all movements will require an export declaration.

Step-by-step guidance
- Raise a Goods Movement on TSS - generally done by the exporter
- TSS raises Export Declaration and provides Declaration Unique Consignment Reference - done by TSS
- Obtain Goods Movement Reference on GVMS - usually done by the carrier / haulier
- Action required by carrier / haulier at Northern Ireland port
- Goods are moved by the carrier / haulier
