In reference to the Entry Summary Declaration requirements for movements from GB to NI, the passive means of transport refers to a vehicle (for example, a lorry or a truck and trailer) that is being transported onto an active means of transport (ship/ferry), rather than moving under its own power.
The term is used in combined transportation or where several means of transport are used.
In case of a lorry on a RoRo ferry:
- The lorry is the passive means of transport
- The RoRo ferry is the active means of transport
Note: In the TSS Portal, the Type of Passive Transport field captures the passive means of transport information on Entry Summary Declarations.
