    Movement of Livestock

    Actions you need to take

    • Ensure you have a valid Import Licence, Sheep, Goats and Pigs for breeding and production or a Laboratory animals for research licence applied for at least 10 working days in advance.
    • Ensure you have a Veterinary Supplementary Support Certificate (VSSC) for movement of Sheep, Goats and Pigs for breeding and production.
    • An Export Health Certificate (EHC) will be required for all live animals.
    • Ensure that the designated Port of Entry is for live animals (Belfast Port / Larne Port).
    • Pre-Notification of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) through submission of a Common Health Entry Document (CHED-A) part 1 into TRACES NT a minimum of 24 hours prior to arrival.

    Important Information

    • Imports of live animals are controlled to prevent the import of disease into Northern Ireland and to protect the health of people and animals already in the province
    • All Livestock movements are subject to 100% documentary, identity and physical checks with or without sampling as appropriate

    Crop seeds for planting

    • Importers should be aware of whether the seed needs to have an Orange International Seed Lot Certificate (OIC) for Marketing under the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) rules.
    • Seeds for planting require a valid Phytosanitary Certificate prior to export.
    • Pre-Notification of the DAERA through submission of a CHED-PP part 1 into TRACES NT a minimum of 24 hours prior to arrival.

    Important Information

    • Following the end of the European Union-United Kingdom (EU-UK) transition period on 31 December 2020 the rules permitting the movement of straw and hay from GB to NI changed.
    • All seeds intended for planting must meet NI’s import requirements.

    Actions you need to take

    Moving UAFM from GB to NI under the Northern Ireland Plant Health Label (NIPHL) scheme:

    There are two options available for the movement of Used Agricultural and Forestry Machinery (UAFM) from GB to NI:

    • The NIPHL scheme can be used where the UAFM is destined for NI. That is, it is intended for use by or sale to an end consumer in NI.
